About Muhlstein CRE

Collaborative Brokerage & Advisory

Carl Muhlstein is a trusted independent commercial real estate advisor known for identifying creative urban in-fill projects, leasing up projects with high-quality tenants, and underwriting operating assets like content-creating studios — all with a deep understanding of public-private partnerships and land-use issues. He makes it his priority to understand and advise based on the facts.

In addition to serving a wide variety of institutional and private clients, Carl has collaborated and completed transactions with senior brokerage executives at JLL, Cushman & Wakefield, Newmark, CBRE, Eastdil Secured, Cresa, Savills, LPC, Avison Young, Transwestern, and Colliers.

Carl is especially skilled at maximizing the value (or minimizing costs) of challenged assets in time-constrained situations. He helps his clients understand the power of brand from a physical and aesthetic viewpoint, driving change management and employee engagement. Combining Capital Markets, place-making and operating issues is Carl’s signature practice. His creative and dynamic approach to understanding tenants’ needs delivers projects that lead the market, incorporating financial, branding, and real-time market intelligence.

Outside of his client work, Carl’s activities include the ULI Homeless Initiatives, AIA LA Board, ICSC, California Infill Builders Federation, BOMA LA PAC Chair, and Chair of LA’s Prop F Citizens Oversight Committee. He is a frequent moderator and guest speaker at CORENET, BISNOW, CONNECT RE, SCDF, PREA, USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, LACRA, CREW, UCLA Anderson Forecast, LABJ Forecasts, NAIOP and ULI Fall Meeting Councils & YLG Roundtables.
